Published: 1 October 2025

Latest Update from the Environment Agency (EA) below. The Parish Council is currently working with the office of our MP, Jacob Collier, and the EA, to arrange a village meeting about flooding. Further details of this will be advised in due course.

Dear Rolleston Parish Council,

Our Business Case development for flood risk management is still expected in the next couple of months, and we are still keen to engage with yourselves and the community when we have the final report. Under existing government funding rules, it is likely that Property Flood Resilience will be one of the leading options for future flood risk management. This, paired with Natural Flood Management and continued riparian/ EA maintenance of the channel and surrounding watercourses will reduce risk in the more frequent storm events, but not prevent extreme floods still occurring. I expect this may not come as much of a surprise, but I also recognise that it might not be the solution(s) everyone would like. We must comply with funding rules and provide a technically feasible option, taking account of catchment and village characteristics. The funding rules are being examined currently, but existing arrangements are expected to continue until April 2026.
Please do let me know if you have any further questions or concerns in the meantime.

Kind Regards,
Tom Ellis
